HISTORY :

Ours is a rural college and most of the students are first learner generation. English as a compulsory subject was taught since the inception of the college in 1987. With some strange fear for the subject the students were reluctant to choose English as a special subject, but with teachers’ motivation and students’ willingness English as a special subject was introduced in the year 1998. We are proud to say that each student from the department is leading a successful, established life. Today, the department has become an asset to the institution.

Our alumnae have a vast range of occupations. From Tehasildar to teachers in English and Marathi medium schools and from businessman to air hostess.

GOAL :

To make students understand what is to live a quality life and how to face life by understanding literature.

OBJECTIVES :

  • To cultivate interest in reading literature

Suneeta Lokhande, who passed with 71% marks at B.A and received the best teacher award says, ‘The discussions with my teachers helped me to overcome my weaknesses and fear of speaking in public. I gained confidence to teach in English medium school’.

Pavan Marbate of 2014 batch, working for NGO at Banglore, says, ‘ I understood what exactly it means what I learnt in the Department of English. I realized what it means that Literature teaches how to live life , when I completed my M.A Development Course at Banglore and started working with an NGO with 2500 farmers by promoting small enterprises to enhance their livelihood.’

Shashikala Andre now a head mistress of English medium school say,’ I am what I am today is all because the department of English in Chakan College. It gave us new vision to look at life.’
