INTRODUCTION :
The Department of Economics is one of the important departments in the Arts faculty. The Department of Economics was established in CSM’s Arts and Commerce College, Chakan in the year 1993 when Arts faculty was started. Economics as a special subject for BA was introduced in the year 1994. Department organizes various curricular and co-curricular activities to support teaching activities. Most of the students in the college and in the department are from farmer’s family.
The Department aims to guide students regarding new techniques in agriculture. The objectives of the Department are to develop the ability of students to link economic theories and principles with the practical life, to prepare students for gainful employment and self-employment, to organize various activities and programs for students to suit local situation, to prepare students for higher education and to discuss economic events happening at state, national and international level.

Dr. Rajendra A. Rasal has more than 27 years teaching experience at Undergraduate level. He has 5 years experience of Post Graduate teaching as visiting faculty at HRM Rajgurunagar. He held office as acting Principal, CSM’s Arts and Commerce College Chakan, during 21/07/2000 to 05/10/2000 and 1/11/2008 to 12/06/2009. He is a recognized Ph.D. Guide of Savitribai Phule Pune University from 30 April 2007. Six students have completed Ph.D. and four students are working on their Ph.D. dissertation under his guidance. Five students have completed M. Phil. under his guidance. He authored 27 books of which 10 are Reference book and others are text. Savitribai Phule Pune University recommended five books as the reference book s at U.G. Level. He has written several articles in Daily Sakal, Daily Loksatta and in the magazines like Yojana, Shikshan ani Samaj, Shikshan Sankraman, Shikshan Samiksha. He has presented research papers in local, state, national and international seminar and workshop. He has delivered several lectures in local, state and national level seminar. He has worked as a member of various committees of University like Local Inquiry Committee, subject expert selection committee, Ph. D. selection committee etc., Subcommittee member of Board of Studies in Economics for preparation of syllabus etc. |

Research Activities in the Department:
Research project as a part of the syllabus is prepared by the students on various topics for which guidance is given by Prof. Dr. Rajendra A. Rasal. The research projects are prepared by the students of TYBA on the topics related to Agriculture, Poly house, Milk dairy, Income and expenditure of Local Bodies, Employment, Business, Regulated market etc.
