INTRODUCTION :
The Department of History is one of the important departments in the Arts faculty. The Department of History was established in CSM’s Arts & Commerce College in Chakan in year 1993 when Arts faculty was started. History as a General subject for B.A. was introduced in 1993. In the same year, History General Level & History of Civilization subject was introduced for F.Y.B.A.
Department organized various curricular & co-curricular activities. Most of the students in the College & the Department are from rural areas. The Department aims to guide students regarding new techniques in History. The objectives of the Department are to develop the ability of students to link historical theories & principles with the real life, to prepare students for gainful employment & self employment, to organize various activities & programmes for students to suit local situation, to prepare students for higher education & to discuss historical events happening at State, National & International level.
Activities : Department of History organized various programmes & activities taking into consideration the objectives of department. Department organized following activities:

- Seminars/Workshops
- Poster presentation
- Local history project
- Article reading
From last three academic years Department of History organized above activities under various themes in the academic year 2017-18. Department planned to organize various activities on the topic-“Indian Revolutionary Movements & Revolutionaries.
- 2014-15 : Importance of History in Tourism
- 2015-16 : Local History Project
- 2016-17 : Historical Survey of Chakan & around places

| Prof. Deshmukh Vikas Mukund has more than 25 years teaching experience at under graduate level. He has participated in various State, National & International levels, seminars & workshops. He has written several articles in magazines. He has presented research papers in local, state level seminars & workshops. He has delivered several lectures in local level. He has worked as a member of various committees in the college.
